(Eagle News)–Supporters of Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday, July 26, asked the Department of Justice to dismiss the sedition complaint filed against her over the Ang Totoong Narco-list videos against President Rodrigo Duterte’s family.
In a letter to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, the group called Team Pilipinas said the charges were “just another attempt to silence the opposition” and were “baseless.”
For this, they cited what they said was Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo’s remark about the credibility of Peter Joemel Advincula, whose affidavit was the basis for the filing.
Advincula claimed to be the yellow-hooded character in the video who hurled the drug allegations against now-Davao Rep. Paolo Duterte, presidential daughter Kitty Duterte, among others.
“In Panelo’s words, Bikoy’s credibility is questionable because ‘once you lie in one, you lie in all.’ This is the same man now claiming to have worked with VP Leni in the alleged destabilization plot,” the group said.
According to the group, Robredo should remain as vice president until 2022, “as mandated by the Constitution and the Filipino people through their votes.”
“To prosecute her and remove her from her position based on bogus allegations from a questionable witness is a clear violation of the mandate of the people and an outright insult to our democracy,” the group said.
Apart from Robredo, facing the charges are Senator Leila de Lima, Antonio Trillanes IV, several priests such as Robert Reyes, among others.
