Robredo rejects resignations of top LP officials

(Eagle News)—Vice President Leni Robredo, chair of the Liberal Party, has rejected the resignations of top LP officials following the defeat of all Otso Diretso Senate bets in the May 13 polls.

In refusing to accept the resignations of Senator Kiko Pangilinan as LP president and of Quezon City Rep. Kit Belmonte as LP secretary general, Barry Gutierrez, Robredo’s spokesperson, said that “much work remains to be done.”

“…And they will do it, together,” Gutierrez said.

In a statement, Pangilinan said  his resignation, which was effective June 30, was taking responsibility for the results of the national elections.

“As campaign manager for the Otso Diretso slate, I was unable to ensure our victory in the elections and I therefore assume full responsibility for the outcome and hold myself primarily accountable for this defeat..,” Pangilinan said.
