Robredo camp: Results of manual recount to affirm Robredo is winner of 2016 VP polls

(Eagle News)– Vice President Leni Robredo’s camp on Sunday expressed confidence the results of the manual recount that is slated to start on Monday will only affirm that she was the winner in the 2016 vice presidential elections.

“Kumpiyansa kami at walang dapat ikatakot sa magiging resulta ng recount dahil walang dudang si (Robredo) naman talaga ang nanalo noong 2016 elections,” lawyer Romulo Macalintal said in a statement.

He said the recount would also prove that former Senator Bongbong Marcos’ accusations against Robredo were all mere “lies.”

According to Macalintal, in the first place, “no single election protest involving local elective positions” has been “successful,” with the physical count of the ballots tallying “exactly” with the results of the count made by the vote-counting machines and the consolidated canvassing system.

“Sa kasaysayan ng ating automated election system, wala pang nananalong protesta sa halalan mula pa noong 2010,” Macalintal said.

He said if Marcos was unable to prove any “substantial recovery” from the three pilot provinces of Camarines Sur, Iloilo and Negros Oriental, his protest will be dismissed.

The manual recount involves ballots from  5,418 clustered precincts.

The Presidential Electoral Tribunal ad hoc committee said the first to be subjected to the recount were the ballots from Camarines Sur.

Robredo was declared the winner of the vice presidential elections after claiming 200,000 votes more than Marcos.
