Robredo camp “extremely disappointed” over PET denial of bid to immediately resolve poll protest

(Eagle News)–The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday, July 19, expressed “extreme disappointment” over the Presidential Electoral Tribunal’s  denial of their bid for the electoral protest against her to be resolved immediately.

In a statement, Robredo’s lawyer Bernadette Sardillo said they however   “fully respect” the PET resolution that called the motion “premature,” and expressed confidence the Supreme Court would rule Robredo rightfully won the vice presidential elections in 2016.

“We anchored our motion on the fact that Marcos’ camp hasn’t proven anything in its electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo. In fact, Vice President Leni has gained additional votes from the recount,” Sardillo said.

In a separate statement, the camp of former Senator Bongbong Marcos for their  part welcomed the PET ruling.

Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesperson, said the tribunal “has finally put an end to Robredo’s fallacious claim of victory despite the fact that the entire process had not yet concluded.”

“She should stop misleading the public with her impetuous pronouncements,”  Rodriguez said.

In denying Robredo’s motion in a July 2 resolution, the PET said it still had to complete the proceedings according to the rules.

This included a judicial recount, revision, and appreciation of the votes cast in the chosen pilot provinces for a manual recount.
