Reporter denies Associate Justice De Castro was source of info on alleged tampering of draft TRO

(Eagle News) — Newspaper reporter Jomar Canlas on Monday said his source on a story about the alleged tampering of a draft temporary restraining order by Chief Justice Ma Lourdes Sereno was not Associate Justice Teresita de Castro.

Canlas made the revelation in a House justice panel hearing on the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Larry Gadon against Sereno, belying Gadon’s earlier claims.

Gadon had said it was Canlas who gave him the information about Sereno’s alleged tampering of the draft TRO, based on information provided to him by De Castro.

But in Monday’s hearing, Gadon said he “really cannot remember now whether it was Canlas” who gave him the information.

Even then, he said “it doesn’t change the fact that there was an article on the TRO.”
