“Quiel” intensifies into a typhoon

(Eagle News)–“Quiel” has intensified into a typhoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

PAGASA said “Quiel” was last spotted 430 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour  near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

“Quiel” is moving southwest at 10 kph.

Between today and tomorrow afternoon, moderate with occasional heavy rains will be experienced over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao and Ilocos Norte.

PAGASA said light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains will affect Mindoro Provinces, Palawan, and Western Visayas.

PAGASA said sea travel is risky, especially for small sea vessels, over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to prevailing or forecast rough sea conditions.

PAGASA said  “Quiel” is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between tonight and tomorrow morning and will head generally westward towards Vietnam.
