PSG explains use of bulletproof glass for Duterte in Malabon event

(Eagle News)–The Presidential Security Group on Wednesday, April 3, said it decided to use a bulletproof glass for President Rodrigo Duterte during his speech in Malabon because the venue was an “open area.”

“Whilst our President wanted to have close encounter and dialogues with the people, PSG acknowledges the need to balance security and accessibility of the President,” Brigadier General Jose Eriel Niembra said in a statement.

He said “in every engagement, assessment of the venue is conducted in order to determine the type of security measures needed to be enforced.”

“With or without outstanding threat, it is but imperative for PSG to implement the highest security protocols,” he said.

President Duterte, speaking in front of the bulletproof glass, said on Tuesday that someone wanted him killed.

He said he would have wanted less stringent security protocols but the PSG had insisted otherwise.
