PSA: Country’s employment rate at 94.3 percent, up from last year’s

(Eagle News) — The employment rate in the country went up from last year’s figure, based on a recent Philippine Statistics Authority survey.

The 94.3 percent employment rate based on this April’s results is 0.4 percentage points up from April 2016’s employment rate of 93.9 percent.

From 6.1 percent in April 2016, unemployment rate also went down to 5.7 percent.

According to the PSA, the labor force participation rate based on this year’s results was 61.4 percent, given a labor force population of 69.6 million.

Workers in the agricultural sector comprised 26.1 percent of the total employed this year, while those in the industry sector comprised 18.5 percent of those employed.

The PSA said this last one was the smallest part of the labor force.

According to the PSA, based on April 2017 results, among the occupation groups, workers in the elementary occupations were the largest group (26.8 percent),

Managers comprised the second largest occupation group (16.3%), followed by service and sales workers (15.0%), and skilled agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers (13.5%).
