(Eagle News) — Philippine President Rodrigo said he would try not to “curse”  or use “cuss words” in public.

The President said he had made this promise to God on the flight back from Japan to Manila, when he heard a voice while everybody else in the plane was asleep.

“I promised God not to express cuss words,” he told the audience at the Davao International Airport lounge after reading his arrival speech, and sticking to it, which was unusual for the President who liked to deliver spontaneous speeches more often laced with curses.

No more cursing in public, he said. Duterte said he would try to keep this promise.

“So you guys hear me right always because a promise to God is a promise to Filipino people,” he said.

But he later said, he cannot say if he would totally drop cursing altogether.

“There’s always a time for everything, a time to be foul-mouthed. It’s all calibrated… (But) I don’t want anybody reading my mind dahil hindi na ako maka-diskarte,”  he said.
