Program to clear roads of obstructions to continue until end of Duterte’s term

Validation set quarterly, starting December

(Eagle News)–The national clearing program will continue beyond the 60-day deadline imposed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the clearing of road obstructions.

This is according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government, which issued a statement days after the lapse of the deadline imposed following President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to “reclaim all public roads.”

According to the DILG, 328  local government units got a high compliance rating, 497 got medium compliance rating, 323 got low compliance rating, and 97 failed.

Those that failed came from the following regions:

  • Region 1: 11
  • Region 2: 1
  • Region 3: 1
  • Region IV-B: 7
  • Region 5: 10
  • Region 6: 1
  • Region 7: 12
  • Region 8: 9
  • Region 9: 18
  • Region 10: 13
  • Region 11: 3
  • Region 12: 3
  • Region 13: 4
  • CAR: 4

Based on reports from 1,246 LGUs, 6,899 roads were cleared of obstruction, the DILG said.

According to the DILG, the decision to continue with the national clearing program until the end of the President’s term was announced by Duterte, who “was very satisfied” and “commended the DILG under Secretary (Eduardo) Año and the LGUs with resounding applause from him and all Cabinet members during the Cabinet meeting last Friday.”

The DILG said the validation will be done quarterly starting this December.

“So, our advice to all LGUs is not to let their guard down, maintain and sustain what they have accomplished, continue with their road clearing operations, otherwise they will join the 97 LGUs that have been issued show cause orders by Secretary Año,” Interior Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said.
