President Duterte will not violate Constitution — Andanar

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Malacañang clarified that President Rodrigo Duterte will not violate the Constitution as the row between the President and the Supreme Court intensifies.

According to Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, President Duterte is an attorney and a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and thus has a respect for the rule of law.

Andanar added that President Duterte is actually asking Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno not to create a constitutional crisis by hindering the President’s efforts against illegal drugs.

Furthermore, Andanar said that the President also respects the separation of power between the executive and the judiciary and that is the reason why the President asked the alleged “narco-judges” to surrender to the Supreme Court and not to the police.
