President Duterte to embark on Japan trip this month

(Eagle News)—President Rodrigo Duterte is slated to visit Japan by the end of May.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said this was so he could attend the annual Future of Asia conference upon the invitation of a representative of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

“..According to what I heard also is that when the President accepted that, the representative of the prime minister came here to thank (President Duterte),” Panelo said.

Panelo did not say when exactly the President would be in Japan but reports said this was from May 30 to 31.

Nikkei said there were also attempts to schedule a summit with Abe.

Duterte first visited Japan in October 2016.
