President Duterte to China: ‘Time to talk’

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) – President Rodrigo Duterte says we cannot wage war against China this time, we talk first.

During his speech in the ceremonial switch on of 405MW circulating fluidized bed coal thermal plant of Filinvest Development Corporation, Misamis Power Corporation on 22 September 2016 in Villanueva town, Misamis Oriental, he acknowledged the long history of Filipino-Chinese business relationship.

He said there had been a lot of contributions of the Chinese community in our country and even tracing back to his Chinese roots.   He emphasized we cannot wage war but said that one of the things he would demand if he goes to Mainland China is give us back our fishing rights.

“And there will be a time, there is always a time in this world: the time to talk, a time to war, a time for bloody, a time to be purified.” But he said it’s not the time because we cannot depend on anybody except us.

Despite having won the maritime dispute against China, Duterte said we still talk. It’s business. They are helping us now with this new power plant and just imagine if we can get their help in the years to come, he said.

He said this new coal power plant will really alleviate problem on electricity including the Zamboanga peninsula.

This time, power supply will be stable through this additional coal power plant but in the future through fast development especially in Mindanao, the country will have something like a solar or better technology but not expensive.

However, he said the goal right now is to use coal because it’s cheap and available although it is maybe deleterious to the whole of the climate of planet earth.

Meanwhile, the power plant is a multi-billion peso investment by FDC Misamis that will use the latest clean coal technology: the circulating fluidized bed boiler technology. Considered as the cleanest process to burning coal, the technology removes more than 95% of sulphur emissions. (JMOR/PIA10)
