(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the creation of a Philippine Railways Institute where the human resource capacities of railways personnel will be developed.
In signing Executive Order No. 96, Duterte noted there was an “urgent need” to develop these capacities to ensure the personnel’s competence and compliance with generally accepted standards of practice and the rules and regulations pertaining to the safety, operation and maintenance of railways.
Duterte said the transportation sector, of which the railways industry is a part, is a priority of the government under Ambisyon Natin 2040, “where investments should be complemented by appropriate human development.”
Under the memo, the institute will be under administrative supervision of the Department of Transportation.
