(Eagle News) – President Rodrigo Duterte made the assurance on Thursday that Vice-President Leni Robredo would remain in her post “until the end of her term.”

During an interview at the groundbreaking of the Bicol International airport on Thursday (December 8), Duterte dismissed Robredo’s fears that there was ever a plot to remove her as Vice-President.

“I will assure Leni and the Bicol region that she will be there until the end of her term,” he said.

“There is no such thing as removing the Vice-President,” Duterte added.

On Sunday (December 4), Robredo, who hails from the Bicol region, claimed that there was a plot to remove her from power, before she resigned as chairwoman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).

She made the statement after she had been asked to desist from attending cabinet meetings starting December 5.

Palace officials dismissed Robredo’s fears as pure speculation, as they clarified that the President’s instructions for her not to attend cabinet meetings was because the chief executive already felt uncomfortable with her political actions.  (Eagle News Service)
