Poe, Escudero make courtesy call to INC Executive Minister

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) —  Presidential aspirant Senator Grace Poe and her running-mate Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero visited the Iglesia Ni Cristo Central Office in Quezon City on Monday to make a courtesy call to the INC Executive Minister Brother Eduardo V. Manalo.

Poe, who is running as an independent, came to the INC office earlier than Escudero. Both were welcomed at the INC’s Bulwagan room by Brother Eduardo who heard the tandem’s platforms.

Poe said the INC’s support was important to her as she stressed her advocacy to improve the country’s agriculture to help more of her countrymen.

“Noon pa man natulungan na rin ako ng Iglesia, at ngayon siyempre tumatakbo (kami), kurtesiya na namin na hinihiling ang suporta kung saka-sakali. (Even before, the Iglesia had helped me. And now that I am running again, it is part of courtesy for us to seek the (INC’s) support,” she said.

Poe explained that she talked about the problems affecting agriculture — especially the worsening El Niño condition — with the INC Executive Minister,.

Senator Poe also acknowledged the help that was provided by the Iglesia Ni Cristo to those who are in need.

For his part, Escudero, said he was glad to have met the INC Executive Minister again, and added that he and Senator Poe discussed with him the possible solutions to the problems faced by the country.

“Ang pinag-usapan namin mga usapin at problema ng bansa, at mga solusyon na puwedeng i-alok namin bilang mga kandidato sa pangulo at pagka-pangulo ni Senadora Grace,” Escudero said in an interview after the courtesy call.

He said Brother Eduardo listened to what he and Senator Poe had to say, and that they also asked him his views about the various problems facing the country.

“I missed Ka Eduardo, and I am glad to have been given the opportunity to talk to him again. I hope this won’t be the last,” Escudero said in Filipino.
