(Eagle News)– Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo had also planned to kill former Mayor Gerry Jaucian, a police official said on Monday, Jan. 7.

Quoting the statement of  Emmanuel Jaduvar, the police’s main witness in the killing of Rep. Rodel Batocabe, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director Chief Supt. Amado Corpuz said Baldo had offered P350,000 for the job to the same people who killed the congressman in December 2018.

Batocabe’s security aide SP01 Orlando Diaz was also killed, and six people were injured in the attack.

“But hindi natuloy dahil (former Daraga, Albay Mayor Jaucian) died of illness sometime in 2018,” Corpuz said.

Jaucian passed away in May 2018 allegedly after a battle with lung cancer.

He was 70 years old.

Baldo has denied all allegations against him.

The police, however, have filed double murder and frustrated murder charges against Baldo and six others.

The police said Batocabe’s killing was politically motivated, noting that based on statements from the suspects and the witness, the assassination plot against him was hatched after he announced plans to run for mayor of Daraga.

Baldo had plans of seeking reelection in the 2019 elections.
