PNP: Father of boy seen bullying Ateneo student in viral video not a cop

(Eagle News)–The Philippine National Police has denied the father of the Ateneo Junior high school student who has been dismissed from the school after being  seen bullying a schoolmate in a viral video was a member of the police force.

PNP Spokesperson Chief Supt. Benigno Durana said this was based on a check by the PNP’s Personnel Accounting Information System and Record Management Division.

He said based on information from the Ateneo community, the father was actually engaged in the medical profession.

Durana issued the statement after speculation on social media the father of the bully was a scalawag policeman who had been sent to Mindanao.

In the viral video, the bully was seen asking another student to choose between “bugbog o dignidad.”

Hearing no answer, he proceeded to physically assault the boy, who did not fight back.

The same bully figured in at least three other viral videos where he was seen physically and verbally assaulting other students.

On Sunday, Dec. 23, Ateneo dismissed the bully, saying bullying had no place in the institution.

It also said it had created a task force to make an assessment of the situation on campus.
