PNP: At least 119 convicts released under GCTA law have surrendered so far

(Eagle News)–At least 119 convicts who were released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance law have surrendered to authorities as of Monday, Sept. 9.

Based on Philippine National Police records,  of the 119, 32 surrendered to the  Police Regional Office 2, 24 to the Police Regional Office 4B, 13 to the PNP’s Regional Office 5 and ten to the Police Regional Office 7.

Regional Offices 1, 4A, and 10 have five surrenderees each.

The Bureau of Corrections has said 1914 convicts of heinous crimes have been released under the law, which increases the allowances granted to inmates.

President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered for them to surrender within 15 days following reports of corruption in the grant of GCTA to inmates and the reports of misapplication of the law to include convicts of heinous crimes.
