PNP: 160,000 policemen to secure May 13 elections

(Eagle News)—Over 100,000 policemen will be deployed to secure the May elections, the Philippine National Police said on Thursday, May 2.

Police Colonel Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said the 160,000 policemen was an increase from the 143000 that was to be deployed initially.

Banac said the increase did not mean a threat had been monitored.

“We want to ensure no untoward incident will take place,” Banac said.

The elections are slated on May 13.

More than 18,000 national and local posts are up for grabs in the polls, including 12 senators, 59 party-list representatives, 243 district representatives, 81 governors, 81 vice governors, 780 provincial board members, 145 city mayors.
