Pimentel, Pacquiao meet 3 PDP-Laban contenders for Speaker post

PDP-Laban officials led by Senate President Koko Pimentel, party president, had a meeting with three PDP-Laban Speaker contenders on Tuesday, June 11./Ron Munsayac/PDP-Laban/

(Eagle News)–PDP-Laban officials met with three contenders for the speakership who are also their partymates on Tuesday, June 11.

Based on a picture shared by Ron Munsayac, chair of the party’s public information committee,  Davao Del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, and Pampanga Rep. Aurelio Gonzales had dinner with Senator Koko Pimentel, PDP-Laban president; and Senator Manny Pacquiao in his house in Makati.

Also seen in the picture was  1-Pacman party-list Rep. Eric Pineda.

The meeting took place days after incumbent and incoming senators met at Pacquiao’s house amid reports of a possible Senate leadership change.

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri later told reporters Senate President Tito Sotto would  retain his post in the 18th Congress.

Apart from Gonzales, Velasco and Alvarez, also vying for the speakership are Taguig Congressman-elect Alan Peter Cayetano, and Leyte Congressman-elect Martin Romualdez.

President Rodrigo Duterte, PDP-Laban chair, has refused to endorse any Speaker contender so far.
