Pimentel on Roque possibly abandoning Senate run: “Sayang”

(Eagle News)–“Sayang.”

Senator Koko Pimentel said it would be a waste if Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque would decide not to run for a Senate seat in 2019.

In a radio interview, Pimentel noted that Roque’s expertise as a lawyer was international law.

As such, he said Roque could be nominated as the new chair of the Senate committee on foreign relations, with incumbent chair Senator Loren Legarda graduating soon.

“Eksaktong eksakto sana kasi dumadami na kasi..may independent foreign policy tayo at marami tayong bilateral agreements. Tapos ang uso ngayon sa larangan ng TRAIN ay free trade agreement so yan yun sayang malaking kawalan kung hindi tatakbo si Secretary Roque,” he said.

He said a slot at PDP-Laban was reserved for Roque but that ultimately, it would be up to Roque if he decides to run.

In a speech before Philippine Military Academy alumni on Thursday, Oct. 4, President Rodrigo Duterte urged Roque not to run anymore, saying he would not win because the military does not like him.

The President said he would just offer Roque another job.

Roque said he would think about it.
