PHL seeks release of Filipino on board seized British-flagged oil tanker

(Eagle News)–The Philippine government is coordinating with Iranian authorities to ensure the safety and immediate release of a Filipino on  board a British-flagged vessel seized by Iran on Friday.

In a statement, the DFA said Ambassador to Iran Fred Santos was contacting Iranian authorities for this.

The department said the Filipino’s manning agency, which is based in the Philippines, is providing assistance to the family of the Filipino.

“The manning agency said there were no reported injuries and vessel was known to be heading to the coast of Iran,” the DFA said.

Unidentified men reportedly boarded MT Stena Impero, with 23 crewmen, as it was cruising along the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has said British-flagged  oil tanker had ignored the distress call made by an Iranian fishing boat.

Iranian media reports said the entire crew of the MT Stena Impero was now at Bandar Abbas port.
