Phl rowers win 3 golds in Russia; Frayna becomes 1st Filipina chess GM

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Eagle News) — The Philippine dragon team won three gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Russia, surviving the cold weather in Moscow to pull off its win in the International Canoe Federation Dragon Boat World Championships at the Regatta Course Krylatskoe.

The team will return to Manila on Tuesday night.
The Philippine team, composed mostly of juniors, ruled the 20-seater Senior Mixed 500-meter event, 10-seater unior Mixed 200-meter event and the 20-seater Senior Mixed 200-meter event with a team composed of eight women and 12 men.
Meanwhile, Janelle Frayna became the first-ever woman chess Grandmaster of the Philippines after winning in the 42nd World Chess Olympiad in Azerbaijan.
