(Eagle News)—The Philippines secured a fifth place finish in the 2018 Asian Games on Friday, Aug. 31, after a dominant win against Syria in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The final score was 109-55.

The Philippines pulled away from Syria in the first quarter alone, and continued to coast along the rest of the game, with  contributions from several members of the squad.

Jordan Clarkson contributed 29 points, followed by Christian Standhardinger with 27 points.

The country’s finish was considered good considering the fact the team was only formed less than two weeks before the Asiad.

Many members of the team  will again represent the Phiippines in the Fiba Basketball World Cup qualifiers, which will resume in September.

The team will be coached by Yeng Guiao after Chot Reyes was suspended for his alleged role in the Philippines-Australia brawl in July.
