Philippine Embassy official: No Filipino casualty in 8.4-magnitude quake in Mexico

(Eagle News) — No Filipino was injured or killed in the 8.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Mexico on Thursday.

Vice Consul Mikhal de Dios of the Philippine Embassy in Mexico said that in the whole of Mexico City, there were 700 Filipinos, but most of them lived west and north of the city, not in the south, where the quake took place.

“(Pero) malakas ang lindol dahil umabot dito sa Mexico City kahit 1000 kilometers ang layo nito sa epicenter ng lindol,” he said.

He said the embassy was in the process of contacting Filipinos in the affected area to know their status.

The embassy was ready to assist Filipinos, and that there was a contingency plan for them in case anything happens, he said.

“Kung kailangan ng on the ground assistance ay magpapadala kami,” he said.
