“Perla” intensifies into tropical storm

(Eagle News)–“Perla” has intensified into a tropical storm.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said as of  4 a.m. today, the center of the tropical storm was estimated at 790 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It  is almost stationary.

No tropical cyclone wind signal is in effect over any part of the country at the moment. but “Perla” may bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan (including Babuyan Islands) and Apayao beginning Saturday or Sunday.

Sea travel is risky, especially for small sea vessels, over the seaboards of Northern Luzon due to potentially rough sea conditions associated with the northeasterly surface windflow, PAGASA said.
