Paolo Duterte condoles with kin of late ex-Speaker Nograles

(Eagle News)—Former Davao Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte extended his condolences to the family of former Speaker Prospero Nograles, who has passed away.

“I and my family, including all of the Dabawenyos, join you in your grief..,” the presidential son said in a Facebook post.

He called Nograles the first Mindanaoan speaker and Manong Boy.

“..and we could only comfort you in this time of deep sorrow,” he said.

Nograles and President Rodrigo Duterte used to be political rivals, with the former Speaker having run  against Duterte in the 1992 polls for Davao mayor and in the 2001 elections.

In 2010, he also ran for the same post against Sara Duterte, the president’s daughter.

He lost in those instances.

Nograles’ son, Karlo, is now serving as Cabinet Secretary in the Duterte administration.

It was Karlo who announced Nograles’ passing away on Saturday, May 4.

He was 71.
