Palace welcomes Robredo’s acceptance of ICAD co-chairmanship

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Wednesday, Nov. 6, welcomed Vice President Leni Robredo’s acceptance of President Rodrigo Duterte’s designation of her as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the next step was for Robredo to see Duterte so she would know what the job specifically entails.

Panelo said in a television interview that she was also welcome to join the Cabinet meeting today.

Earlier, Senator Francis Pangilinan, Cong. Edcel Lagman, Erin Tanada, and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV warned Robredo against accepting the post, which Lagman had said was proof she was “being set up to fail.”

But Panelo said the agencies would extend all their assistance to Robredo.

The Philippine National Police in particular said in a statement that it would “extend to her utmost courtesy, cooperation and full support towards the attainment of a drug free Philippines by 2022.” With reports from Vic Somintac, Mar Gabriel
