Palace: Trillanes using country’s inflation problems as “political issue”

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Saturday, Sept. 9, said Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was using the country’s inflation problems  as a “political issue.”

“In fact, nagsimula na iyong problema sa inflation bago pa siguro lumabas itong isyu ng Trillanes,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

Trillanes is going head-to-head with the Palace after Proclamation 572 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte declared the amnesty granted to him as void ab initio.

The proclamation had cited as bases Trillanes’ alleged failure to file an official application form for the same, and a certification from the military that said there was no available copy of the application in the first place.

It also cited Trillanes’ alleged failure to make an express admission of his guilt in the crimes committed in connection with the Oakwood mutiny and the Peninsula Manila siege.

According to Roque, in the first place, the 6.4 percent inflation in August can be attributed to the increase in the prices of fuel.

“Talaga naman pong halos nadoble ang pagtaas ng krudo, kontrolado ba natin iyan, hindi,” he said.

He said the trade war between China and the US was also a factor in the inflation, which is the highest in nine years.

“Itong kay Trillanes po, gumawa siya ng krimen, tatlong beses. At kung hindi niya mapapatunayan na ligal nga iyong amnesty niya, eh kinakailangan niyang pagbayaran iyong kaniyang nagawa no,” Roque said.
