(Eagle News)–The Palace on Monday, Oct. 14, said it did not pressure Oscar Albayalde into stepping down as Philippine National Police chief.
“I have not heard of anything leading or leaning to that,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview over ANC.
Panelo surmised Albayalde “has had enough of the accusations, innuendos, about his involvement in the drug case, given that his family is suffering from according to him, unfair and false allegations against him.”
“He wants to spare the organization from whatever speculation..bad or false, about him and the organization,” Panelo said.
Albayalde’s resignation came after Senator Richard Gordon said the Senate joint panel looking into the ninja cops issue would recommend the filing of charges against Albayalde over allegations he intervened in the cases filed against 13 policemen behind an irregular drug raid in Mexico, Pampanga in 2013.
Retired brigadier general Rudy Lacadin alleged Albayalde also called him upon learning he was probing the raid and told him “onti lang naman napunta sa akin diyan.”
President Rodrigo Duterte had said he would defer from taking action on the claims against Albayalde and the 13 policemen pending the results of the Senate probe.
