(Eagle News) — The Palace on Wednesday, Oct. 23, gave the assurance President Rodrigo Duterte himself would inform the public about the results of his medical consultation scheduled for today.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the consultation with a neurologist was  “aimed at determining the medical condition of (the President’s) body, as well as finding out whether his previous spinal injury from a past motorcycle accident has been aggravated by his recent fall.”

It was unclear when the “past motorcycle accident” Panelo was referring to took place, but the fall he cited appeared to refer to Duterte’s recent motorcycle accident in the Presidential Security Group compound last week.

Panelo had said the President sustained “minor injuries” in the incident while Senator Bong Go said the President had complained of a “sore” hip.

Duterte was supposed to be in Japan for a series of activities to celebrate Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement, but he was only able to attend the actual enthronement itself early this week.

He had to cut short his trip, which was supposed to end on Oct. 24, due to what Panelo said was “unbearable pain in his spinal column near the pelvic bone.”

Pictures posted by Go, who accompanied him to the trip, showed Duterte using a cane while walking.

The President’s daughter Sara stood in for him in the remaining events in Japan instead.
