Palace: President Duterte to announce fate of M. Manila MECQ tonight

(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte will announce the fate of the modified enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila tonight, the Palace said on Thursday, May 28.

This is days before the MECQ  and other types of community quarantine in other areas are set to be lifted on May 31.

A supposed memo from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases  circulating on social media said Metro Manila and Davao City would be placed under a general community quarantine starting June 1, although no official has vouched for the veracity of the supposed memo at the moment.

Dr. Tony Leachon, Special Adviser to the National Task Force COVID-19, said in a radio interview, however, that the IATF indeed recommended the  GCQ for Metro Manila.

The Palace said the final decision, however,  still rests on President Duterte.

Leachon said the IATF recommended that Cebu City  be placed under an MECQ.

“MECQ ang Cebu City dahil sila ang second epicenter,” he said.

The Philippines has so far confirmed over 15,000 COVID-19 cases.
