Palace on tiff between Medialdea, Tulfo: We won’t meddle

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Monday, Aug. 5, said it would not intervene in the tiff between Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Special Envoy for Public Diplomacy to China and columnist Ramon Tulfo.

“Since charges have been filed, we cannot comment on the validity of the charges. So, we will wait,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a press conference.

Panelo was referring to the libel complaint filed by Medialdea against Tulfo for his  column published in May in The Manila Times.

In the column, Tulfo accused Medialdea of being in an “unholy alliance” with Sandra Cam, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes board members.

Medialdea said he would file another libel complaint over Tulfo’s July 25 column in which the columnist accused him of sitting for one year on the appeal of one Felicito Mejorada for the claim of government reward money following his supposed tip on a smuggling operation in 1997.

Tulfo also accused Medialdea of asking for money through a third person in exchange for the release of the reward.

Medialdea has denied all allegations, saying he acted on Mejorada’s appeal in three months.

He also denied he knew the alleged presidential consultant who supposedly asked Mejorada for money on behalf of Medialdea in exchange for the release of the reward.
