Palace: No power can enforce arbitral ruling on S. China Sea, so far

(Eagle News)—-The Palace on Tuesday, Nov. 20, said the arbitral ruling that invalidated China’s claims in the South China Sea was “useless” so far.

“There is no power on Earth that can enforce it. The United Nations cannot. The United States cannot,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

According to Panelo, instead, “as I said we can get what we are supposed to have by negotiation.”

He added if there was pressure from the international community on China for it to respect the tribunal decision, “who knows?”

“There must be a collective action by the countries of the world and either persuade or pressure China into respecting an arbitral decision,” he said.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is on a two-day state visit to the Philippines.

He is slated to meet President Rodrigo Duterte, who extended the invitation to him.
