Amid calls for transparency, Palace gives assurance “all pertinent info” on Xi’s visit will be released to the public

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Wednesday, Nov. 21, gave the assurance it would release all “pertinent information” about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit in the country.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo issued the statement following calls from legislators and other high-ranking government officials such as Vice President Leni Robredo for there to be transparency in the deals the Philippines entered into with China.

Xi and President Rodrigo Duterte witnessed the signing of over 20 deals, including one on gas and oil development cooperation.

“The Palace takes into account that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), which is the Office of Primary Responsibility during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the country, is still preoccupied with activities on Day 2 of the Chinese leader’s visit,” Panelo said.

We ask for “everyone’s understanding, especially the media, in this regard,” Panelo added.
