Palace extends sympathies to Hagibis-hit Japan

(Eagle News)–The Palace has expressed sympathy for Japan, which was struck by “Hagibis,” one of the strongest typhoons to hit the country in decades.

“President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expresses his deep sympathy to the people and government of Japan for those who perished, were injured, or found themselves homeless in the aftermath of the strongest typhoon to hit Japan in decades,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

According to Panelo, “as we offer our prayers, the Office of the President has likewise asked the Department of Foreign Affairs to get in touch with its Japanese counterpart for possible humanitarian assistance we can provide.”

He said the Philippine embassy in Tokyo continues to monitor the situation.

At least 30 people were killed and hundreds were injured as “Hagibis” made landfall on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka on Saturday evening.
