Palace expresses alarm over fall to death of Chinese national trying to escape from his employer in Las Piñas

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Sunday, Aug. 11, expressed alarm over the death of a Chinese national who fell from his office window reportedly while trying to escape  in Las Piñas City.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo noted  27-year-old Chinese Yang Kang was handcuffed when he fell to his death from the sixth floor in Pamplona around 4 a.m. on Friday.

Las Piñas police have said it was possible Kang was escaping from his employer.

Panelo said the Palace has asked the police to look for Kang’s employer.

“The Palace is concerned with growing reports that foreign workers in the country are being subjected to coercion, illegal detention and other violations of law even by their own countrymen while in the Philippines,” Panelo said.

He said “we need to put a stop to these illegal acts.”

“We will not allow nor tolerate any kind of abuse inflicted on any foreigner whether sojourning or working in this country, whether done by their fellow nationals or by our own citizens,” he said, as he urged foreign nationals subjected to abuse to come forward.

“No one is exempted from the strict enforcement of our laws of the land,” Panelo added.
