(Eagle News)–The Palace has declared February 6 a special non-working holiday in areas covered by Day 2 of the Bangsamoro Organic Law plebiscite.

According to Proclamation No. 656, the declaration of such in Lanao del Norte except Iligan City, and in the municipalities of Aleosan, Carmen, Kabacan, Midsayap, Pikit and Pigkayawan in North Cotabato was to give the people there the “opportunity to actively and fully participate in the plebiscite and exercise their right to vote.”

The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Earlier, the Palace declared Jan. 21 a special non-working holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Cotabato City, and Isabela City in Basilan to allow residents there to also vote.

President Rodrigo Duterte has been very vocal in his support of the BOL, which aims to replace the ARMM with a more autonomous Bangsamoro.

Initial plebiscite results showed residents who voted on Day 1 want a ratification of the BOL, which Duterte has touted as the only solution to the problems in Mindanao.
