Palace congratulates Pacquiao for his victory over “way younger” Thurman

(Eagle News)–The Palace on Sunday, July 21, congratulated Manny Pacquiao for his win over American fighter Keith Thurman, who is ten years younger than him.

“At the start of the year, Senator Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao made the whole country proud as he successfully defended his WBA welterweight belt over American Adrien Broner. Six months later, he doubled this feat as he defeated Keith Thurman today via split decision, even knocking him down in the first round,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

Panelo noted that although Thurman was “way younger” than Pacquiao, “our pound-for-pound King did not show any signs of intimidation as he embodied what a Filipino spirit is all about — a fighter.”

According to Panelo, Pacquiao’s victory “is not only his, but of the entire nation.”

“As such, the Palace is one in rejoicing with the Filipino people as the Pambansang Kamao once again puts the flag above the pedestal with his display of tenacity and courage,” Panelo said.

Pacquiao is WBA welterweight champion via split decision.

This is his second win via split decision.
