Palace confident BSP governor Diokno will hurdle Commission on Appointments

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Tuesday, March 5, expressed confidence the Commission on Appointments would approve Benjamin Diokno’s appointment as the new Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, Diokno was, after all, “a good man,” an “experienced man,” an “expert man” and a “man of integrity.”

He said these were the reasons President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Diokno at the helm of the BSP in the first place.

Earlier, then-House Majority Leader Rolando Andaya accused Diokno of being behind “insertions” in the proposed national budget for 2019, and of having links to a contractor that supposedly cornered government infrastructure projects in the millions of pesos.

But Diokno dismissed the allegations.

The Palace also backed Diokno, noting his integrity.

Diokno replaces Nestor Espenilla Jr., who succumbed to tongue cancer in February.
