Palace condemns “brazen terrorist attack” in Lamitan, Basilan

(Eagle News)—The Palace on Tuesday, July 31,  condemned what it considered a “terrorist attack” in Basilan that left at least six people dead.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the latest terrorist attack in Basilan perpetrated in violation of our laws,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

According to Roque, investigators were now probing the incident.

He also vowed to “bring the perpetrators of this brazen attack to justice.”

At least six people were killed, including a child, after a bomb exploded in a van at a military checkpoint in Lamitan.

The van had been stopped by government militia, who called for military backup after seeing the driver was acting suspiciously.

It exploded even before the backup could arrive.

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Governor Mujiv Hataman said the suspect “detonated the bomb sensing danger he will be captured.”
