Palace belies rumors Duterte is confined in hospital; President is “fit and healthy,” is performing duties in Malacañang, Panelo says

(Eagle News) — The Palace on Thursday, April 2, belied rumors President Rodrigo Duterte was confined in a San Juan City hospital.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the President, who is in self-quarantine until April 7, was “fit and healthy” and is “currently doing his presidential duties” at the Bahay Pagbabago inside the Malacañang Complex.

“We have been informed that a false news starting to spread in the social media that President Duterte is already confined at Cardinal Santos hospital..We wish to inform the public that such information is absolutely false,” Panelo said.

Panelo also urged the public to be “wary of purveyors of false news and information” and urged them to watch and read official advisories relative to the President and the implementation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act instead.

The law  gave Duterte additional powers to respond to the COVID-19 crisis.

Earlier, the Department of Justice ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to look for the sources of fake news and charge them if warranted.
