3.3-magnitude quake strikes off Basilan

(Eagle News)–A 3.3-magnitude earthquake struck off Basilan on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake hit 74 kilometers southeast of Tuburan at 2:59 a.m. Depth of focus was three kilometers. No damage to property nor aftershocks were recorded.

PAGASA monitoring LPA off Aurora

(Eagle News)–The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services is monitoring a low pressure area off Aurora. The PAGASA said as of 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated at 1,335 kilometers east of Baler. Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands will have cloudy skies with light rains as the northeasterly surface windflow is prevailing  over Luzon. Swiss glaciers shrink 10 percent in five years: study

GENEVA, Switzerland (AFP) — Switzerland’s glaciers have lost a tenth of their volume in the past five years alone — a melting rate unmatched during observations stretching back more than a century, a study showed Tuesday.
