Over a thousand Malabon residents evacuate due to typhoon ‘Glenda’

MANILA, July 16 (PNA) — More than a thousand individuals from different areas in Malabon City evacuated to nearby schools and gyms on Wednesday due to floods caused by rains spawned by typhoon “Glenda.”

In a phone interview, Malabon City public information officer Bong Padua told the Philippines News Agency that the city government is assisting a total of 1,650 individuals (403 families) as of posting time.

Padua said that the barangays most affected by floods include barangays Potrero, San Agustin, Dampalit, Tonsuya, Catmon, Panghulo, Ibaba, and Tinajeros.

Evacuees are currently staying in nearby schools and the Oreta Sports Center.

So far, there have not been any casualties recorded, Padua said.

However, he noted that Glenda’s strong winds uprooted a number of trees and unroofed many houses.

The city government is currently conducting clearing operations to make major roads passable for vehicles.

Padua said they are also providing relief goods for the evacuees.
