“Ompong” weakens slightly; is slated to exit PAR on Saturday night

(Eagle News)–“Ompong” has weakened slightly and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday night, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said as of 4 p.m., the eye of “Ompong” was located 160 kilometers west northwest of Laoag, Ilocos Norte.

“Ompong” is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 160 kilometers per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 195 kilometers per hour, as it moves west northwest at 25 kilometers per hour.

Signal No. 3 is up over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao and Benguet, while Batanes, Cagayan including the Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Aurora are under Signal No. 2.

Metro Manila, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Lubang Island and Northern Quezon including Polillo Islands are under Signal No. 1, PAGASA said.

The southwest monsoon enhanced by the typhoon will bring gusty winds with occasional moderate to heavy rains over Western Visayas and Mimaropa, while scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains will be experienced over Bicol Region and eastern and central Visayas.

“Fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas with TCWS and the  seaboards of Luzon and Visayas,” PAGASA said.
