Nograles: At least P16 billion needed to implement mandatory ROTC

(Eagle News)–The government needs at least P16 billion to implement mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps. at the senior high school level.

This is according to Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Party-List Rep. Jericho Nograles in an interview over radio dzbb on Sunday, Aug. 25.

Nograles has re-filed a bill requiring military training at that level in public and private schools.

Nograles said the amount covers P4000 for each student’s uniform that includes a  T-shirt, belt, pants, among others.

He said there are four million senior high school students in the country.

He said apart from instilling patriotism in students, mandatory ROTC will allow for an increase in the number of reservists needed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“Whether it is mandatory, optional, selective, o lottery system, these are all options na kailangan natin pag-aralan at kailangan nating pagdebatihan para hindi naman siya unfair to all parties concern,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte is backing for the mandatory military training for select students, saying there was a need to the youth about patriotism and love of country.
