No Filipinos reported hurt in New Zealand shootings so far — ambassador

(Eagle News) — No Filipinos have been reported injured in the shooting incidents in Christchurch, New Zealand so far.

In an interview over CNN Philippines, Ambassador to New Zealand Jesus Domingo said this was based on reports from the Filipino community and the Philippine Consulate there.

“Kaya lang we don’t know the identity ng mga injured na nadala sa ospital,” he said.

He said around 5000 Filipinos were working in Christchurch city.

Local media have reported at least nine dead after at least one gunman opened fire on the Masjid al Noor mosque in central Christchurch, and another mosque in suburban Linwood.

Unconfirmed reports said the shooter was wearing military-style clothing.

The South Island city has also been placed under lockdown.

“This is an evolving incident and we are working to confirm the facts,” commissioner Mike Bush said. With a report from Agence France Presse
