“Nimfa” intensifies into severe tropical storm

(Eagle News)–“Nimfa” has intensified into a severe tropical storm, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

In its recent advisory, PAGASA said “Nimfa,” which was estimated 630 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes,  is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

It is forecast to continue  intensifying within the forecast period, even as it is almost stationary.

Between today and tomorrow afternoon, the southwest monsoon, PAGASA said, will bring occasional light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Calamian Islands.

Intermittent light to moderate rains with scattered heavy rainshowers during thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, CALABARZON, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Provinces, and the rest of Central Luzon and northern portion of Palawan, PAGASA said.

Sea travel is risky especially for small seacraft over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon due to “potentially rough to very rough sea conditions,” according to the weather bureau.

The conditions in other seaboards of the country, PAGASA said, will remain moderate to rough.

“Nimfa” is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow morning.
