BROOKLYN, NY (Eagle News) – LeBron James and the L.A. Lakers took on the red-hot Brooklyn Nets in a sold-out crowd bleeding purple and gold to support who some have dubbed as the world’s greatest basketball player at Barclays Center Tuesday night.
The Lakers tried to end their last of their four-game road trip with a win. Despite the King’s 36-point performance, the team could not quite handle the strong shooting performance of the Nets led by former Laker D’Angelo Russell.
Russell’s 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in the final quarter lifted the Nets to their sixth-straight win, a 115-110 victory over James’ Lakers. The second overall NBA draft pick behind Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns in 2015, finished the game with 22 points and 13 assists.
“It’s a great feeling,” Russell said. “I’ve personally never been in that position at this level, win six in a row, definitely not satisfied, wanna give ourselves a chance, to keep it going, streaks end, eventually, but I wanna keep it going.”
Prior to their winning streak, the Nets rode an eight-game losing skid and now improved their record, inching close to the .500 mark. The Lakers stacked a three-game road loss and will return home to take on Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans.
